County Gifts Patrol Vehicle to LSSU Criminal Justice Students

Criminal Justice students at Lake Superior State University will be getting “seat of their pants” training with official law enforcement equipment thanks to a generous donation from the Chippewa County Sheriff’s Office and approved by the county board.

“It’s going to be a great training tool,” said Chippewa County Undersheriff Mike Bitnar as the students will be able to recreate traffic stops, prisoner transports, subject control and a host of other scenarios utilizing the old patrol vehicle. “It has everything — lights, siren, spotlight and a cage.”

Bitnar said the vehicle, which had rolled up more than 165,000 road miles, was no longer a reliable member of the road patrol fleet, but its value to the law enforcement community will far surpass what it would bring back to the county in a sale.
