Sheriff Ted Schendel
Address: 505 S. Michigan Ave Beulah, MI 49617
In November of 2012 Ted Schendel was elected Sheriff by the voters of Benzie County. Ted was born in Dearborn, Michigan but his roots run deep in Benzie County. Ted’s parents first purchased property in Benzie County in 1969. He would spend summers here until his family moved permanently to Benzie County in 1975. He then attended Michigan State University where he received a degree from the school of Criminal Justice in 1980. Due to a lack of jobs in Michigan, he accepted an offer to work as a police officer with city of Fort Lauderdale, Florida. The Fort Lauderdale Police Department is over 400 officers strong. It is one of the most diverse and challenging areas in the country. Ted retired after 25 years of service in 2006.
While an officer in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, Ted met and married his wife Kelly and they raised two daughters Brooke and Brittany. Law enforcement seems to be a family passion. While Ted and Kelly were both police officers in Florida, now their daughter Brooke is a police officer in Davie, Florida and Brittany is a police officer for the City of Hollywood, Florida. Ted’s Father, O Paul Schendel was the Benzie County prosecutor for 18 years.
