Ryan A. Swope graduated from Grayling High School in 2002. While attending Kirtland Community Collage’s Law Enforcement program, he started his career with the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office in 2003 as a seasonal Marine Officer. Swope graduated from K.C.C. Police Academy in November 2004 with an Associate of Applied Science, Criminal Justice. After graduating from the police academy, he worked as a seasonal Snowmobile Officer for the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office.
Swope was hired as a fulltime Deputy in April 2005. He has held several positions throughout his career with Crawford County including Road Deputy, S.T.I.N.G. Narcotics Officer, School Liaison Officer, Detective Sergeant, Dispatch Coordinator, Undersheriff and Sheriff . Swope was appointed Sheriff on October 1, 2022.
Sheriff Swope is the Vice President of Grayling Youth Booster Club, Grayling Little League coach, F.O.P. Member, F.O.E. Member, F.O.M. Member, Warthogs M.C. member, and donates his spare time to several local organizations.
He has been married to his wife Jen for 9 years and they have two children.
