Sheriff Scott Rutter

Sheriff Scott Rutter is a lifelong resident of Dickinson County and graduated from Kingsford High School in 1992. After high school, Rutter attended Ferris State University where he graduated in 1996 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice. He has been employed with the Sheriff’s Office for over 19 years. Rutter was hired in May of 1996, and worked as a part time Corrections Officer until October when he then accepted a full time position as a Police Officer with the City of Menominee. In February of 1998 he returned to Dickinson County when he was offered a full time position with the Sheriff’s Office. He was assigned to the Road Patrol Division and held that position until being promoted to Road Patrol Lieutenant in January of 2005. Rutter served as Road Patrol Lieutenant until his appointment to Undersheriff in 2009 and held that position until he was elected to the position of Sheriff in 2016.
