Sheriff Martin has been in law enforcement in the public, private, recreational and judicial sectors for over 20 years. Sheriff Martin is an elected board member, past president, and current chairman of the education committee and senior lead master instructor for MCRGO. Being a law enforcement and civilian firearms instructor, he has trained thousands of students and instructors from all over Michigan, the US and Canada. Martin in the architect and co-author of the first state-based organization CPL program. Martin heads a department of 22 sworn officers and 60+ correction officers, animal control and marine patrol, also administering the Lake County Residential Reentry Program (LCRRP) for the MDOC, the only one of its kind in Michigan. Starting as a reserve police officer, Martin has worked for the Mattawan Police Department, the Vicksburg Police Department, the Allegan County Sheriff’s Office, the Van Buren County Sheriff’s Office and the Kalamazoo County District Court. Martin is also a licensed security guard contractor and licensed private detective. Martin is a graduate of the Michigan Sheriff’s Leadership Institute. Originally from Kalamazoo, Martin and his wife live in Luther, while also owning a restaurant near Irons.
