Sheriff John Cischke graduated from Avondale High School in 1974 and attended Kirtland Community College and graduated with an Associate in Science in 1976. In July 1978, Sheriff Cischke was hired by the MI Department of Natural Resources. In 1987 Sheriff Cischke hired as a MI Conservation Officer and was assigned to District 4 in Newberry, MI. Sheriff Cischke continued to work in District 4, Luce County and attained the rank of Sgt and then Lt.
Sheriff Cischke retired from the State of MI in July 2009 after 31yrs of service. Soon afterwards Sheriff Cischke was hired by Sheriff Kevin Erickson as a recreational deputy, working Orv, snowmobile and marine enforcement. After two years Sheriff Cischke was appointed Undersheriff of Luce County under Sheriff Kevin Erickson. Sheriff Cischke held the Undersheriff position until he was elected to Sheriff in 2016.
Sheriff Cischke is a veteran of Operation Iraqi Freedom serving in Iraq in 2003. Sheriff Cischke retired from the MI Army National Guard as a Staff Sgt after 20yrs of military service.
