Sheriff Garry M. Biniecki began his career as a Corrections Deputy on January 4, 1976. In December of 1977 he attended the Police Academy and started his career in the Uniform Services Division. Sheriff Biniecki became a qualified scuba diver in 1976 and later became certified to teach. With his qualifications and experience he helped organized the first Sanilac County Sheriff’s Office Search & Rescue Dive Team which enhanced the Marine Division to the level that it is today. Sheriff Biniecki also assisted with the development of the Special Response Team and has served on many committees through his career. On March 13, 2006 he was appointed as Undersheriff. In November of 2008 he was elected the 27th Sheriff of Sanilac County. While serving as Sheriff he successfully oversaw the major jail addition and renovation project which opened in July of 2013. For nearly 40 years Sheriff Biniecki continues to proudly serve the community.
